I was born in Caracas, Venezuela and from my childhood I was in contact with the arts; especially with music, since I studied at the music conservatory for several years and worked as a teacher and joined several musical groups. At the same time, I attended screen printing workshops at the Cristóbal Rojas School of Arts in my hometown where, together with drawing and painting students, I exchanged learning and experiences. After an interruption of several years in 2012 I re-initiated the visual arts but using paper and canvas as a support, acrylic and pastel, as well as watercolor and collage to structure work that seeks to express the undeniable relationship between sound and color, between music and the visual arts. I have participated in solo shows and collective exhibitions in Venezuelan Art, New Professional Technical Institute, Ana Mendez University, Gallery of the mayor of the city of Doral and in other galleries of public and private institutions in the city of Miami. Some of my works have been published on record covers and one of my drawings served as an award at the Miami journalists’ association. Coming from a Caribbean country and now a resident of Miami, Florida, where the light is permanent, I continue working, searching, experimenting, trying to absorb a bit of this wonderful luminosity and capture it on my support, always hand in hand with the music.
Artist Statment
I’m a musician, painter and mixed media artist who lives and works in Miami, Florida. I work in these media including watercolor, acrylic, paper, image transfer etc, because of versatile, expressive possibilities, visual effects, possibility of elaborating textures.
I’m inspired by the visual artists Armando Reveron, Jackson Pollock, Edgard Alvarez Estrada, Manet, Picasso, Kandinsky, Mondrian, Gerhard Richter because of their treatment of color and light. Also express emotions and intellectuality. I’m also inspired by the writers Arturo Uslar Pietri, Robert Seethaler, Gabriel García Márquez, Jorge Luis Borges because of their wonderful use of language that manages to convey extraordinary images with words. He is also inspired by music, animals, Nature because shapes, color, and life.
The main subject of my artworks is texture, color, music which is important to me because it is my source of inspiration and a challenge to find ways to express myself visually.
My art-making process consists of experiments with shapes, colors and textures. This is important to understanding my artwork because music is present in most of my works in some way. However, the color, the texture and the forms as a whole are for me the best way to express art.
